Next year, Bay State voters may face a ballot question that would expand the 30-year-old bottle law to include juice, flavored water and other non-carbonated beverages. Under the current law, a 5-cent deposit is added to the cost of a carbonated beverage, which can be recycled, and the nickel redeemed. Proponents say an expansion can widen recycling efforts. But opponents, which include representatives of soda companies, say an expansion fails to solve solid waste problems. So, our Flash Poll question of the week is:
Do you favor expansion of the state's bottle law to include non-carbonated beverages?
