Worcester-based maker of four-inch pies Table Talk Pies is planning an expansion of at least 27,000 square feet at its Southgate Street facility as the 94-year-old company looks to expand.
According to planning documents filed with the city in hopes of winning permits and approvals from the Zoning Board of Appeals for a variance, the company said the building will be a giant refrigerated building and freezer to store pies and ingredients.
In documents, President Harry Kokkinis said the building must be constructed to make a recently-built 57,200-square-foot manufacturing building at the South Worcester Industrial Park economically feasible.
That building opened last year using just one production line and a second line is being added, but that increase in manufacturing needs to be supported by the freezer building to store 3,700 pallets of goods.
The new freezer building will add 10 jobs in addition to the 40 to 50 being added via the new production line, Kokkinis said.
“This building, at this proposed minimum size, is critical to our continued production and growth,” Kokkinis said in a document.
The 25 Southgate St. facility opened in September 2017 with the capacity to produce four million pies per week.
The facility was built by Southgate Realty Trust LLC, the owners of the industrial park. The new facility is also proposed to be built by the landowners.
