Immigrants make up 22 percent of Worcester's population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and the data shows those foreign-born residents are more likely than native born people to be entrepreneurs -- 36 percent of Worcester residents who reported working for their own business are immigrants.
What level of contribution do you think immigrant business owners make to the Central Massachusetts economy?

Where would we be without all of these wonderful people -- their courage, energy and hard work.

Many of the great companies in the U.S. have been founded by immigrants, including local company IPG Photonics. Recent immigrants bring energy, drive and skills to our economy.

Lets hear the entire story. Is there truth to immigrants being given tax breaks or some form of charity to start their own business?

I'm a commercial real estate appraiser and often marvel at people who have left their own countries to come to a place where they don't speak the language and yet manage to carve out a place in the business world. Kudos to them!

As I type, a competent immigrant worker is installing a new floor in another room. The company belongs to another young immigrant who is very professional and very effective.

My parents were legal immigrants from Canada in the 1950s. They and I are entrepreneurs. I also want to add that I am for legal immigration and immigrants becoming true American citizens and learning English as my parents did. This is very important so that we don't end up fractured due to social and different languages like other countries.

This question is flawed at so many levels that it should be taken down.

This is not a debate about immigrants. It's about legal immigration. Your question is absurd. You either believe in laws or in sovereign nations or not!!! What level of contribution is just intended as a smoke screen to the bigger question of legality!
